Partial dentures can replace one tooth, or a bunch of them!

A removable partial denture is designed to fill the space left by a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. These can be crafted using different materials, like acrylic partial dentures, depending on your comfort and lifestyle.

At Denture Haus, we offer a full range of solutions for our patients, including same-day denture repair for added convenience.

Partial dentures are generally made from acrylic, the same material as full dentures. We use the best acrylic available that are designed for longevity and looks.

Acrylic

Your acrylic partial denture stays in place using stainless steel clasps. In some cases, a ‘snap’ denture can be made that doesn’t need clasping. We will be able to tell you if this can work for you.

Often, the acrylic is combined with a metal framework. This can take away a lot of the bulk from a full acrylic denture, and comes with precision clasping that is often smaller and less obvious than a stainless steel wire.

Valplast

An alternative to acrylic is a flexible material called Valplast. Slightly translucent, the clasping blends naturally into your gums, making the appliance near-invisible.

Valplast is not suitable for all cases; if you are lacking undercuts for the material to lock into or you need a larger area covered, you will need to consider an alternative.

Your denture will be completed over a number of stages.

The amount of time and visits may vary from those you have done in the past or of family members and friends who have had the same work done. Every case is unique, but generally, an acrylic and/or chrome denture is made with the following stages as part of your denture treatment plan. Whether you're getting a custom denture, a conventional denture, or a temporary denture, the process is tailored to your specific needs.

Initial Impression

Initial Impression

An impression of the mouth is taken using a special material. This step may also apply to cases involving immediate dentures after extractions.

Secondary Impression

Secondary Impression

The technician will make a custom or special tray to take another, more detailed impression of the mouth tissues and structure.

Bite Registration

Next, a bite block will be built on the new model. This wax rim will be placed in your mouth and you will need to bite down to leave marks on the surface.

Try In

When ready, this wax mock-up will be placed in your mouth and small adjustments can be made. If you are happy, the denture can now be finished.

Finish

Finish

Your Prosthetist will insert the denture and trim away any spots that cause you trouble. It will take time and a few adjustments to get it just right.

Follow Up

Follow Up

If you had teeth removed the day your denture was inserted, you will need to come back soon for assessment and have the denture relined.

Partial Denture FAQs

  • Upper and lower partial dentures are tailored to fit the specific contours of the upper or lower jaw. Upper partials typically have a broader base for stability, while lower dentures are designed for comfort and functionality.

Both types are removable dentures and can be made from various materials, including acrylic or metal denture frameworks, and can be flexible or more rigid depending on the design.

  • The creation of partial dentures involves dental imaging to capture the exact structure of your mouth. This allows for the custom denture design of teeth to match the colour, shape, and size of your existing teeth.

The process includes fittings and adjustments to ensure comfort and proper function.

  • Yes, removable dentures provide the ability to eat a variety of foods. It may take some time to adjust, but starting with soft foods and gradually introducing harder ones can help.

For added security, some people use denture adhesive to keep their denture in place while eating.

  • Proper dental care includes daily cleaning with a denture brush and a mild cleaner. Avoid using toothpaste, as it can be abrasive. Soak your dentures overnight in a solution to prevent warping. Regular check-ups ensure your denture option continues to fit well and function properly.

  • Adjustments are common as your mouth changes shape over time. Your new denture may need relining, repairs, or even full replacement.

This is especially true if you're combining your partial denture with other treatments like complete dentures or implant retained dentures.

  • Absolutely. Partial dentures provide a natural-looking solution for missing teeth, enhancing your smile and supporting facial muscles.

Combined with cosmetic dentistry services like dental veneers or teeth whitening, they can help you achieve a confident, healthy-looking smile.

  • With proper care, partial dentures, including acrylic and flexible partial dentures, can last several years. Over time, they may require relining or denture repair.

In some cases, patients may opt for implant retained denture solutions for added durability and stability.

  • Yes, partial dentures are a more affordable, less invasive alternative to implants. They’re also compatible with other treatments like traditional dentures or implant retained dentures, depending on your specific needs and remaining natural teeth.

  • Partial dentures are removable dentures designed to replace one or more missing teeth. They typically use a gum-coloured base with artificial teeth and clasps that anchor to your remaining natural teeth.

In contrast, a dental bridge is permanently cemented, using crowns on adjacent teeth to support a false tooth. Unlike dentures, bridges are not removable. Choosing between the two depends on factors such as the number of missing teeth, condition of your existing teeth, and budget.
